Location: Transportation Dept
Non Interim Position
12 mos, 8 hrs/day - 2PM TO 10:30PM SHIFT
Grade 29, $22.94

Purpose Statement
The job of Transportation Mechanic IV is done for the purpose/s of
providing support to the educational process with specific
responsibilities for overseeing the day to day vehicle repair and
maintenance operations during an assigned shift; supervising
assigned Transportation Mechanic personnel; providing information
to others; and scheduling work assignments within established time
frames and standards.
This job reports to Transportation Mechanics Supervisor.
Essential Functions
Closes the shop at night or opens it in the morning for the purpose
of ensuring that the facility is properly armed or disarmed.
Conducts meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering
information and coordinating shop activities.
Escorts District drivers after traffic accidents for the purpose of
ensuring an efficient and safe arrival to and/or from
destination.
Facilitates state vehicle inspections for the purpose of conforming
to established legal requirements.
Implements assigned activities and/or projects for the purpose of
delivering services in compliance with established guidelines.
Maintains specialized transportation equipment (e.g. ZONAR, camera,
etc.) for the purpose of ensuring items are in proper working
order.
Maintains variety of manual and/or electronic files and records for
the purpose of providing up to date information and/or historical
reference in accordance with established administrative
guidelines.
Monitors shop clean up for the purpose of ensuring a clean,
organized and safe working environment.
Oversees Transportation Mechanic personnel (e.g. supervising,
training, evaluating, etc.) for the purpose of prioritizing and
organizing work assignments; monitoring performance and ensuring
completion within established timelines.
Performs the job functions, if needed, of a Transportation Mechanic
III for the purpose of supporting the department and achieving
overall objectives in an efficient and timely manner.
Processes work orders for the purpose of documenting activities,
providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
Recommends policies, procedures and/or actions for the purpose of
providing direction for meeting the district's goals and
objectives.
Responds to service calls for the purpose of repairing or towing
vehicle.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of
ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work
unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need
to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job
conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to
satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering
to safety practices; handling hazardous materials; operating
equipment used in vehicle repair and maintenance; preparing and
maintaining accurate records; developing effective working
relationships.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read
technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or
facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define
issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies
required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job
include: safety practices and procedures; pertinent codes,
policies, regulations and/or laws; diesel and electrical systems;
trends in automotive diagnosis and repair; personnel processes.
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings,
and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider
a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required
to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with
data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate
equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to
work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with data of varied
types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related
equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create
action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires
independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with
equipment is moderate to significant. Specific ability based
competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of
the job include: displaying mechanical aptitude; adapting to
changing work priorities; being attentive to detail; communicating
with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting
priorities; providing leadership; maintaining a good rapport with
employees, students and community.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using
standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons
within a small work unit; utilization of some resources from other
work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There
is a continual opportunity to impact the organization's
services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions
require the following physical demands: occasional lifting,
carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing,
some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant
fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 30% sitting, 30%
walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed under some
temperature extremes.
Experience: Job related experience with increasing levels of
responsibility is required.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
