Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: Experience working with
children is required. Description: This position involves working
in a mixed unit of adult and pediatric patients. The ratio of
adults to pediatric patients may vary. Patients may include both
adults and children. The nurse must be willing to float to care for
adult patients when needed. Successful completion of a dysrhythmia
exam is required prior to contract signing. The unit has 10 beds
with a pediatric patient ratio of 1:3-4 and adult MST ratio of 1:5.
Common surgical diagnoses include total hip and knee replacements,
small bowel resection, hysterectomy, and exploratory laparoscopy.
Common medical diagnoses include MRSA, C-diff infections, COPD,
pneumonia, and COVID-19. Telemetry patients may include those
presenting with chest pain. Pediatric patients typically present
with respiratory illnesses, chronic seizures, dehydration,
appendicitis, and failure to thrive at a medical-surgical level. If
a child's status changes, they will be transferred out. Nurses are
expected to provide primary care. There are no feeding tubes,
tracheostomies, or ventilators in use on this unit. Nurses will
administer high flow oxygen to stabilize patients for transfer as
needed. Care for stable adult patients requiring BiPAP for chronic
conditions is also expected. Remote Monitor Techs are available for
adult patients, although RNs must be able to read telemetry strips.
Bedside monitors are used for pediatric patients. RNs are required
to work every other weekend. Holiday rotation is included to ensure
fair distribution of holidays. If there is low census, staff may be
required to rotate standby turns. Floating to the maternity unit
for mom-baby couplets may be required. Scrub color is navy.
Unit-specific orientation will be provided based on experience.
